The Centre

Glen Eira Adult Learning Centre Inc. (GEALC) is a community owned and managed, registered training organisation. For over 20 years the Centre has been providing quality, affordable, accessible education for adults.

The Centre offers a wide range of programs for people who want to improve their English language, literacy, numeracy, computer and personal skills, and extend their involvement in activities in the community.

GEALC works actively with all levels of government and community organisations in order to provide quality, affordable educational opportunities to adults in the Glen Eira area.

The GEALC team

The classes run by the Centre are all taught by qualified professionals. They ensure that the learning experiences of their students are positive by providing a friendly and supportive class environment.

GEALC relies on the support of a team of volunteers who generously donate thousands of hours of their personal time. The Centre is managed by a voluntary Committee of Management and individual volunteers assist with tutoring, administration, quality assurance, computer support, library management, building maintenance and promotion. The team works together to ensure that the Centre meets the diverse learning needs of the community.

GEALC programs include:

  • English language and literacy

  • information technology (computers, Internet and email)

  • volunteering and active citizenship.

Students attend GEALC for its individualised service, small class sizes and friendly environment.

The Centre can also offer new programs tailored to the specific needs or interests of groups where there is sufficient demand.

Access and Equity

The Centre believes that all people, regardless of race, religion, gender, age, marital status, ability or lifestyle choice, should be afforded the same rights, opportunities, access and equity.

Given the diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds of the people who join GEALC, the Centre aims to ensure that each individual is respected and feels comfortable to express his or her beliefs and develop his or her skills.

Acceptance of people's differences and respect for differing points of view are important. Students are encouraged to express their views in a manner that is mindful of the cultural background, beliefs, abilities and lifestyle choices of others.
